PLANS &. LIBRARIES

Woodworking plans should remove uncertainty

A useful plan answers the questions most likely to interrupt the build. The right source depends on whether you want one specific project, broad inspiration, detailed instruction, or a deep library to browse.

Ted's Woodworking is one way to get a broad project library. Other approaches may fit better when you want one specific project, free project pages, publication based plans, or instruction built around video.

Free project sites

Free project sites let you inspect individual builds before spending anything. They can be a good fit when you enjoy searching for one project at a time. Quality and detail vary by source, so use the same plan checklist you would use for a paid plan.

Individual paid plans

Buying one plan at a time can make sense when you already know exactly what you want to build. The tradeoff is simple. You get a focused purchase rather than a large library, but repeated purchases can add up if you build frequently.

Publication based plan libraries

Magazine and publisher archives can appeal when editorial origin matters to you. Some provide individual plans while others use memberships or subscriptions. Check current access terms and what remains available if a subscription ends.

Video first instruction

Video can be especially useful when you want to see a technique in motion. The important question is whether the project also gives you dimensions, material information, and a practical reference you can use at the bench.

Where Ted's fits

Ted's is marketed around breadth and a large digital collection. We have not independently audited the complete current library, so we do not claim that every plan has the same level of detail. Our review explains what to verify before deciding whether that kind of library suits the way you choose projects.
